< Return to previous page                                             the applications   Pteranodon The Pterosaurs ruled the skies during much of the Cretaceous Period and one of the most spectacular was the Pteranodon. This flying monster animal was much larger than earlier pterosaurs its huge wingspan stretched a massive 7 metres. The Cretaceous Period started around 144 million years ago and lasted for around 80 million years, during this time pterosaurs were widespread and varying in appearance and size.   Habitat Information You enter on to a sky scraping cliff top where around thirty Pteranodons are preening and nesting. Exploring this environment you are able to experience how these gigantic flying reptiles lived. Looking over the cliff edge you can see down to the rocks below, and witness the sea crashing against the cliffside. Other pterosaurs are flying around overhead and down below hunting for fish.
