NatWest VR Cricket Game '02 - '03
The England and Wales cricket Board in collaboration with NatWest commissioned Maelstrom to produce the first ever totally immersive and fully interactive cricket game. The game features Aussie fast bowler Glenn McGrath and professional Umpires D. Shepherd and S. Venkat. To help create the photo-realistic environment Maelstrom digitally captured the Oval and reconstructed it as a 3D model, also Motion Capture was used to animate all the players in the game, this helps to bring the players to life as the motion is digitally captured human movement.

The unit tours the UK test matches and NatWest roadshows. Children from the ages of 8 upwards can enjoy playing the game and experiencing what it is like to face a 90mph+ delivery from one of the worlds greatest bowlers Glenn McGrath.

Users wear an actual cricket helmet which incorporates the vr headset and headphones and try to hit the ball by using a physical cricket bat which is accurately represented and tracked in the virtual world for speed, position and angle etc.
