Headset Development
At Maelstrom we prefer to stay independent of specific hardware, and throughout the development of our headset housings we have used various optics from Sony's Glasstron to today's low cost options the Olympus FMD range and the Cy-Visor. We can specify most available options but costs are always an important issue, and in today's consumer gaming market the low cost headsets are perfectly placed to suit this requirement.

Most of the low cost consumer units available are too frail to be used continuously in the public domain, this is why we have developed the housings shown below. They are designed to protect the consumer units by giving them a more robust casing that incorporates the optics, earphones and tracking hardware transmitters
(InterTrax-II, Ascension Space pad and Polhemus FastTrax transmitters). The images below show the developmental stages of the headset housings produced for clients over the last three years. The new 2004
design (large picture below) is still being finalised, but once its is, it will incorporate not only multiple options for optics but will have an all new cabling system designed to further protect the headset system and its cabling.
