Get ready to enter the virtual world of
ProLogis - where visiting our developments from now on will be as
easy as child's play.

An exciting breakthrough in technology means you
can take a virtual tour of our distribution centres from the comfort
of your office or home. It's as simple as playing a computer game -
just install the CD-ROM brochure you'll receive soon on your PC and
watch as you are transported into the very heart of the
development.
With the help of the latest immersive virtual
reality technology, prospective occupiers can wander freely around
the units, inside and out, get a bird's eye view of the development
and see how it will all look when it's finished. It's fully 3-D,
using satellite imagery and digital terrain mapping, giving accurate
dimensions and a comprehensive overview of the whole site.
ProLogis is the first UK property developer to use
the bespoke software tools to develop, present and market its new
distribution centres in this way. It has all been made possible
thanks to a link-up with leading virtual reality specialists Maelstrom, of
Leicester, who have been involved with many large-scale
architectural stadia projects, including the new Coventry City FC
stadium.
Nick Brown, UK Communication Manager of ProLogis
Developments, and Maelstrom creative director Graham Patten, got
together to discuss the idea of creating a virtual world for the
company, and chose our Kettering site as the pilot model.
The result is a realtime virtual reality
environment, where the viewer is allowed to wander wherever they
like within the model, look at whatever they want, and for as long
as they want. The virtual world shows the entire Kettering site
positioned in the centre of a 5km by 5km landscape, with four
pre-determined flight paths to show the viewer the main features of
the site.
The software includes the ability to travel from
the A14 - the park's main access route - and to view the development
in flying, running or walking mode; enter sheds and offices, switch
racking on and off, switch traffic on and off and even show the site
before and after the build.
You can zoom down onto the park from thousands of
feet up, or from a house nearby for a close-up view. All the
elevations and park plans are included, as well as the pdfs. All
this virtual reality software has been turned into a special CD-ROM
brochure, which is currently being distributed to industrial
property agents and prospective occupiers.

To celebrate our involvement in this cutting edge
technology, ProLogis recently held a series of innovative launch
events, where agents were able to don a virtual reality headset and
harness, and skydive more than 6,000 ft onto the Kettering
development. All the players were able to interact together as
characters in the virtual reality world, and they were set a mission
to complete once they landed on terra firma. It all proved a rather
exhilarating, and unforgettable experience!
(The VR tour is currently only available on our
Kettering development, but will eventually cover all our sites
nationwide. And if your company wishes to experience the thrill of
the skydive launch, then we can arrange for the kit to be
available.
