Budweiser Virtual Shootout Unit Design
The images above show
the the unit design from concept through to final delivery including the
headset and foot sensor attachment. The unit design was created in house and
had a floor area of around 3.5m long by 2.7m wide, and its highest point was
the stadium like lighting structures that stood 2.4m from the floor. The
unit was designed at this scale to have the most impact - it also
incorporated a crowd control barrier essential for the type of venues that
the unit would be visiting throughout the promotion.
Another
large part of the project development was for us to design and create a more
rigid and durable headset casing for this we collaborated with local
'product design' company
Canard Design
(who also
constructed the 11 Virtual Shootout units).
The headset optics are made by Olympus and we simply re-housed their headset
unit into a more sturdy casing so that it was less likely to get damaged in
a bar/nightclub environment.
The player
also has to attach a foot sensor to their foot with the aid of elastic
straps around both the ankle and instep to help locate and keep it in place.
Also shown above is the player playing the game and from the final unit
section you can see that the headset and foot gear join together in a
simple control unit housed inside a small backpack held around the players
waist - this is then joined to the main unit headstation via a loom that was
designed to detach if the player became unsteady or was to fall.
