The Aviva Open 60 virtual tour software (Phase 1) was unveiled at the 'Calais round Britain race'  in Calais
in August this year (2007). Users put on a VR headset and get transported into a virtual world where they start
standing on a jetty facing the open 60 class yacht 'Aviva'. Users are free to wander around the jetty, select
'keel view' to take a look at the swing keel under the water, climb on board and explore the deck, including
a mast view. Users are also able to gain entry into the cockpit area where they can wander around and see
the main navigation centre and limited accommodation.

  .

Phase II of the software was launched at the TJV (Transat Jacques Vabre) at Le Harve, France (Nov 2007)
This version of the software is an interactive game and challenges users to perform certain tasks whilst on
board. The tasks include; turning off alarms, winching in sails and steering the yacht back on course.

In order to be able to perform the virtual tasks the user wears VR gloves, the gloves enable the user to control
their virtual hands in the VR world.  The user performs simple gestures in order to interact with the virtual
controls on board. For example, pointing with the left hand moves the user forwards in the direction they are
facing, pointing with their right hand interacts with the on board controls and switches. Performing the 'grab'
gesture with both hands allows the user to grab hold of items such as the winch handles or the yacht's wheel.

Each interactive task is time based, and users are continuously evaluated and scores are awarded when
each task has been completed. If the user takes too long the timer runs out and user scores nothing for that
task! When all the tasks are complete the users score is entered into the highscore table.
